Enjoy watching your friends argue? Even more when it gets destructive? Come and support them... bring them tissues just in case.
Join us at the UWSMS Debating Series Finals Night where winning arguments, sharp wit, skillful slander and laying the opposition to waste is what we are about!
The finals night is always a hugely enjoyable evening and will be even more exciting this year with the Grand Final on a blind topic with the teams only having 30 minutes to prepare!
Which year will be champions?
eMUWS Spreading Medsoc Love Competition 3: To enter, head to our Facebook page. Find the above Debating Series poster and 'Like' it. If you also leave a comment on the poster (about your favourite debating team this year) you double your chances of winning. Good luck

Think Global and TNT workshop applications NOW OPEN |
|
|
|
|
Applications for the two pre-GHC programs, Think Global and Training New Trainers, ARE NOW OPEN!
If you’re interested in becoming more involved with Global Health at UWS, within AMSA nationally or IFMSA internationally, pre-GHC programs are THE best avenue for you to increase your involvement. The three day workshops will run from September 13th – 15th , just prior to the 2012 Global Health Conference (GHC), in the same tropical location – Cairns, QLD.
About the workshops: Training New Trainers (TNT): If you've got a passion for global health this workshop will not only give you the skills to develop your own projects, campaigns & advocacy ideas, it will also train you on how to pass these skills on to other med kids in the future :) At the end of the workshop, you'll be a qualified IFMSA trainer and have the chance to run your own workshop at GHC
Think Global (TG): Gives you intensive training in some of the most highly topical issues in global health & the skills you need to make a difference in these areas :)
Applications close on the 25th of May at 7 p.m. AEST (5 p.m. AWST - i.e. Perth time!), so don’t miss out on a GREAT global health experience!

Surgical Interest Group - Elections Now Open! |
|
|
|
|
It is my pleasure to welcome the new UWSMS Surgical Interest Group President, Dave Tovmassian. Read on for more info from Dave about SIG Elections! UWSMS Surgical Interest Group (SIG, name to be changed quite soon) is looking for three new members to be a part of the executive team. This is a great opportunity for students from Beta to Zeta who have an interest in Surgery and/or want to help organise interesting events for UWS meddies such as Suturing Nights, Information Evenings and Tutorials.
We are currently looking to fill the following positions:
- Vice President
- Second in command
- Involved in day to day running of SIG
- Can be from any year and clinical school
- Campbelltown Representative
- Any student with ICM or Clinicals based at Campbelltown hospital
- Will be involved in maintaining communication with affiliates in Campbelltown and other SSWAHS hospitals
- Blacktown Representative
- Any student with ICM or Clinicals based at Blacktown hospital
- Will be involved in maintaining communication with affiliates in Blacktown and other WSAHS hospitals
As SIG is a new group it is very likely that despite the role description there will be overlap between what each member is required to perform and for applicants to be aware that there will be several duties which may not fall specifically into their job description.
To apply send in a one page application to

which clearly states:
- Which position you wish to apply for
- Why you believe you are suited for said position
- Relevant previous experience or skills (not essential)
- Contact details
Applications close on Sunday 29th April at 5 p.m., and will be reviewed and voted on by myself and UWSMS exec. Update: submissions have now closed. Thank you to everybody who expressed interest.
No qualifications are necessary for these positions other than a positive attitude and a current enrolment in UWS Medicine. All you Epsilons and Zetas do not let your lack of surgical experience dissuade you from applying, this is a great opportunity for those of you with an interest in surgery to get elbows deep in a friendly setting.
Good luck! David Tovmassian SIG President
